These standard format porcelain tiles feature a natural finish and are fully rectified, simplifying installation and providing the opportunity for slimmer grout lines. Their rich hue makes them a versatile choice for both walls and floors. Crafted with precision by the FMG factory in Italy, you can trust in their quality and durability. A slip rating of R10 provides slip resistance. A V rating of V2 adding a touch of variation when laid. How to Order

We’ve streamlined the tile ordering process to make it as straightforward as possible. Here’s a quick guide on how to order the perfect amount of tiles for your project:

Step 1: Choose Your Tile

Explore our extensive range of tiles and select the style, size, and finish that best suits your project. Our tiles are sold by the box (or by the slab for our larger formats). Simply enter how many square metres you need and you will be shown how many boxes are required to cover this area. We round this up to the nearest full box. You can also order by the box if you know how many you need.

Step 2: Specify Square Metres (M²) or Quantity (Boxes)

Square Metres: If you know the area you need to cover, simply specify the number of square metres required. Our system will then calculate the number of boxes needed, rounding up to the nearest whole box.
Quantity: Alternatively, you can choose to order a specific quantity of boxes directly if you already know how many you need.
Job lot: If the item is sold as a job lot, this means that this product cannot be split and you will need to buy the entire quantity of boxes or square metres shown. Job lots are significantly discounted but are perfect stock, and not returns or damaged items.

Step 3: Add 10% for Cuts and Wastage

To ensure you have enough tiles to account for cuts and any potential wastage, we recommend adding 10% to your order. This extra allowance guarantees you have ample tiles to complete your project without the need for last-minute adjustments.

Delivery Information

We offer delivery services to a wide range of mainland UK locations. We aim to have all orders delivered within 4-6 working days, from Monday to Friday, excluding weekends (Saturday and Sunday). This means that you can expect your order to arrive as early as the 4th working day or at the latest on the 6th working day. It’s important to note that certain postcodes in Scotland and offshore islands may incur additional charges and may have longer lead times for delivery. To determine the delivery cost, simply enter your postcode during the checkout process. Once we have received your order, a member of our Customer Services Team will contact you to confirm your delivery date. For standard formats we offer free UK delivery where the total order value is greater than £500. Standard delivery costs apply to large format slabs.

Our kerbside delivery service aims to bring your product as close as possible to the nearest available solid delivery point. Certain obstacles such as steps, lifts, uneven or gravel paths/driveways, and grass surfaces might require the delivery to be redirected to the nearest feasible location in proximity to the delivery vehicle. It is important that clients inform us of any road or parking restrictions or any special requirements prior to the delivery date. You may collect your Goods from our Chatteris warehouse, but this must be arranged in advance. Additionally, please ensure that the vehicle you use for collection is suitable for fork-lift loading, unless alternative arrangements have been agreed upon in writing. Please note that if you organise transportation for the Goods, it is done so at your own risk, and we will not entertain claims for damage or breakages. Our general Delivery Service and those of our delivery Partners (unless communicated otherwise) may involve deliveries between 8.00 am to 6.00 pm, excluding weekends and public holidays. Standard sized porcelain tiles are delivered on EPAL Euro pallets measuring 800 x 1200 mm. The delivery vehicle will be a 3.5 tonne Luton box van, or a 14 or 18 or 26 tonne commercial ‘curtainsider’ or an 18 tonne ‘Hiab’ crane lorry depending on your order. Pallet deliveries will be made to the kerbside only using a pallet truck. Due to the weight, the delivery lorry is not able to enter driveways or proceed off the public highway.

Large Format Slabs

Emporio Surfaces are the only online retailer offering large format porcelain slabs for immediate order and delivery. Typical tile stores will offer you a maximum of 100 x 100 cm tiles when they refer to large formats. Our large format slabs start at 150 x 150 cm and go all the way up to 150 x 300 cm. This is over four times larger than typical large formats. At over three metres tall these slabs are extremely heavy (up to 65 kg per slab) and require careful handling and specialist transport services. Large format slabs will not fit on standard pallet delivery vehicles, requiring a Hiab with crane or specialist vehicle with a slab storage facility. This inevitably means that delivery costs for slabs are significantly higher than for standard pallet delivery. Slab delivery is split in to 4 zones, based on your postcode.

Large Format Slab Delivery

Deliveries of large format tiles (which includes all tiles with dimensions 1500 x 1500 mm and above) are delivered on wooden ‘A frame’ racks. These ‘A Frames’ are extremely heavy and have dimensions of 312 x 74 x 191(H) cm. A maximum of 50 slabs (25 each side) can be delivered on each frame. With the wooden frame itself weighing 220 kg and each individual porcelain slab weighing up to 60 kg, a single ‘A frame’ might weigh over 3000 kg.

In the event that you receive damaged or incorrect tiles, it is essential to notify us within 2 working days of the delivery. A Company representative will respond to your notification within two working days to engage in a discussion regarding potential refunds and/or to schedule the earliest possible delivery date for any replacement orders (contingent on stock availability at that time).

Ordering Samples

While viewing our collection, you might want to request colour swatch samples of the products you like. You’ll find “Order Free Sample” buttons or an icon like this on each product. Up to 5 samples can be posted out free of charge to a UK destination. If you require larger volumes of samples, please contact us. Tile samples are provided in 97 x 200mm format and please note due to natural colour variations, differences in shade can occur. Please note that some products may not offer samples, this is because the item is offered as a job lot and we cannot open the box to cut a sample.

We highly recommend ordering tile samples before making a purchase, as this provides insight into the look, feel, and finish of our products. All our products offer the option to order samples online, though certain exclusions may apply. Tiles can vary in shade and size from batch to batch and so a sample may not be 100% indicative of the final product. Please ensure you are entirely happy with the products as any claims once they have been fixed will not be considered. Customers are welcome to order a single sample tile of any style, colour, or type, but multiple samples of the same product cannot be added. Different styles, types, and colours may be ordered. For the delivery of samples and small orders, we employ appointed carriers who may furnish delivery information directly to you through SMS text messaging. When placing your order, we encourage you to provide a mobile telephone number whenever possible. This enhances the quality of service our delivery partners can extend to you.

When you have found the tile you are interested in, you should see their corresponding Order Free Sample button. Clicking the appropriate button will add the tile to your sample order. Notice that each tile will have its surface finish shown. Tiles are available in Polished, Honed, Natural, Grip and Structured finishes. You can read more about these surface finishes here.

To review your items or to complete your order simply click on the sample icon in the top right-hand corner on any page of our website. Where dimensions or sizes are specified, they shall be deemed to be nominal. The nominal size is the expected production size of the tile plus the joint width. For example, a tile with a nominal size of 600 x 600 mm typically has a production size of 597 x 597 mm, with a 3 mm joint width. Unless a tile has been rectified (mechanically cut to an exact size), production sizes may have an allowed deviation of approximately +/-2 mm. Virtually all the porcealin tiles offered on this website are Rectified.

Slip resistance values shown in our catalogue or in this website, are purely indicative and not binding. Any specific requirements must be confirmed by us at the time of ordering and before installation.

Slip Rating

Roads Dark Depth - Natural has been classified with a slip rating of R10.

The Ramp Test and R Values are methods used to assess the slip resistance of porcelain tiles, especially in the context of safety and usability.

Ramp Test: The Ramp Test, often referred to as the “Ramp Test for Slip Resistance,” is a standardised procedure used to evaluate the slip resistance of flooring materials, including porcelain tiles. It involves a specially designed inclined plane or ramp where the flooring material is tested to determine its slip resistance characteristics. During the test, a person walks on the surface of the tile, and the angle of the ramp is gradually increased until the person begins to slip. The angle at which this slip occurs is recorded, and this angle corresponds to a specific rating known as the “R rating” or “Ramp Test rating.” This rating is an important indicator of how slip-resistant a tile is, with higher R values indicating better slip resistance.
R Values: R Values are numerical ratings assigned to porcelain tiles and other flooring materials after undergoing the Ramp Test. These values are used to communicate the slip resistance of the tile to consumers, architects, and builders. Higher R values indicate a greater resistance to slipping, making them suitable for areas where safety is a primary concern, such as bathrooms, kitchens, or commercial spaces. Different countries and regions may have their own standards for R Values, and it’s essential to check and understand the specific requirements and recommendations in your local building codes and regulations.

It’s important to choose porcelain tiles with appropriate R Values based on the intended use and location of the installation. Tiles with higher R Values are recommended for areas where there may be water exposure, like bathrooms, kitchens, or outdoor spaces, to reduce the risk of slips and falls. Additionally, considering the local building codes and safety regulations is crucial when selecting tiles for specific applications to ensure compliance with safety standards.

Tiles rated as R9 offer minimal slip resistance and are best suited for dry indoor spaces like dining rooms and kitchens.
Tiles with an R10 rating provide a moderate level of slip resistance, making them a suitable choice for bathroom floors.
Tiles carrying an R11 rating offer strong slip resistance and are versatile for use in all indoor areas, including wet rooms, and can also be employed for outdoor applications.

DIN Standard Ramp Testing (DIN 51130) is an alternative to Pendulum Testing and generally categorised as an ‘off-site’ activity because of the size and complexity of the equipment required to carry out the test. The Slip Resistance Values (RSV) are factory gate values (based on supplied tiles) and categorised using the Ramp Test (DIN 51130) method which is commonly used by European factories. In this method, a lubricated inclined platform is adjusted to a gradually increasing gradient, and the angle is measured at which a person walking on it slips.

We have deliberately not included the ramp test angles on this page as this information can be confused with the angle that a floor may be safely set to, which is incorrect. The shod test results are quoted as an R Rating value from R9 to R13, which relates to the ramp angle.

Finish

Roads Dark Depth has a Natural finish.

Many of the surface coverings we provide are offered in a choice of up to five finishes, with each one possessing its own particular aesthetic and practical qualities. From the contemporary softness of Honed, the authenticity of Natural, or the spectacular shine of Polished, each one displays a personality all of its own and provides fine control over the visual impact of each project. Below you will find an explanation of the surfaces that inspire our clients to explore the delicacies of Italian porcelain.

Polished

Featuring a high-gloss, perfectly smooth finish, the Polished surface exhibits a full range of tones, from bright highlights to dark shadows. With its beautiful lustre being part of the actual structure of the tile, the surface does not scratch, fade or show signs of wear, which makes it just as suitable for high-traffic areas such as office corridors and hotel lobbies as it is for bathroom vanity units and kitchen countertops.

With its high contrast, patterns appear stronger and more obvious with darker and lighter tones becoming bolder in appearance than they would be on the surface of a Natural version of the same tile.

Virtually maintenance free, Polished porcelain tiles are extremely hard wearing and do not require sealing or periodic re-sealing. Please note that due to their higher slip potential when wet, polished tiles are generally reserved for indoor areas, wall and surface coverings.

Natural

The surface of a Natural finished tile typically replicates the finish of the material on which it is based. For a stone and concrete effect tile, the surface will be very similar to the look and feel of the natural material, with its own distinctive markings, patterns and textures, providing a surface where you can literally feel the authenticity.

Within our marble collection, the difference with Natural is that the polished, high-reflected surface, typical of polished marble, is not present, leaving a less-reflective, softer finish. Honed

Honed, also known as Silk offers a cool, contemporary finish that sits beautifully alongside our Polished and Natural finishes, allowing clients to channel their creativity through subtle visual details. During the finishing process for Honed tiles, the surface is buffed to a satin-like feel that is supremely smooth and velvety to the touch. The colour of a honed tile may appear slightly richer than the same tile in a Natural surface, but less so than the Polished.

Within our stone collection, the Honed tile will appear smoother than stone with a slight reflection. But unlike quarried stone, the Honed surface of a porcelain tile remains non-porous and cannot be damaged by water. This means that maintenance is low, sealants are unnecessary, and chip and scratch resistance remains high. You can view our collection of honed surfaced porcelain tiles here.

Structured

Structured finish means that the face of the tile is changed during the forming process from a flat to a textured surface. This texture can take many forms, ranging from a rough random texture to protruding geometric shapes. These Structured tiles provide a degree of slip resistance, especially in the dry, although they do not have the anti-slip properties of Grip.

Grip

For use in wet areas such as bathrooms, pool surrounds and shower areas, Grip finish tiles offer a highly slip-resistant (R11 rated) surface. Featuring a superfine texture they have been designed specifically for wet surface conditions where an anti-slip resistance is required. Please note that while it is impossible to completely eliminate the risk of slipping, our Grip surface tiles are particularly suitable for public use facilities, and far exceed the benchmarks for friction in flooring applications.

20mm Thickness

Ideal for external application our 20 mm thickness porcelain tiles are impervious to water and will never warp, stain permanently or crack.

With multiple laying options they are ideal for patios, balconies, paths and driveways as well as being suitable for interior spaces that need to withstand high traffic and large heavy loads. With their inherent strength our 20 mm thickness porcelain tiles also cater for pedestal and dry laying situations.

Variation

Roads Dark Depth - Natural has been classified with variation of V2.

Shade, texture and tone can vary from piece to piece within a single tile production run. V1 shade tone variation has little or no change from piece to piece where a V4 might have a substantial variety of shade, texture and tone variation.
